Insights from the co-authorship network of the Italian academic statisticians

Abstract Nowadays, new technologies have favored communication among scholars from different universities and countries, huge amount of data scientific works become more accessible. This has led to an increase in the multidisciplinarity research products, but often also a specialized level knowledge scholars. Therefore, while belonging same disciplinary field, may present working styles willingness collaborate according their specific topics interest. plays particularly relevant role Italy, where tenured academic institutions are classified sub-fields that, turn, be aggregated for purposes recruitment career advancement. Aim this contribution is propose methodological approach understand if work collaborative style really so similar as justify grouping. For illustrative purposes, we focus on co-authorship network Italian statisticians relying database published since 1990 until 2021 downloaded by SCOPUS. From database, obtain composed 758 nodes 1730 edges. Some measures at node representing (i.e., number publications, degree, degree strength, some centrality indices, transitivity, external-internal index) explained through quantile regression models. Results provide policy makers with useful insights which significant differences terms interests style, thus not justifying aggregation advancement purposes.
